Personality:

Alvah is a passionate person, which contributes to her fiery temper. She can be fierce when angered, and no one wants to be on her bad side when she is. Alvah can be quick to anger, and can be tempestuous. She doesn't often make much effort to control her temper, except for the sake of her friends. She can also be very vivacious and full of life, especially when she is outdoors, breaking rules, pulling pranks, or generally around people she's comfortable with. However Alvah doesn't like socialising with a lot of people. If she is made to talk to a lot of people for a long time she feels very drained, and needs time alone to re-cooperate. Because of this she often doesn't bother speaking with people she doesn't know, and can be perceived as quiet or shy, when she is anything but.

Alvah has some real steel about her, and a lot of nerve. She likes to push and break rules, and is often daring enough to try anything. She is very strong willed, and hates being told what to do. Alvah doesn't like being bossed around, or talked down to. There are very few people who she respects enough to follow commands without questioning. Alvah often questions everything, and is intelligent enough not to take things at face value. She can be stubborn to a fault, even when she knows she is wrong, and would benefit from just giving in; depending on the person she's dealing with, she often won't give in at all.

Alvah is extremely intelligent, though often exasperates her teachers. She is sharp as a whip, and has a lot of natural ability, but is too impatient to put a lot of hard work in. She studies, and cares about doing well, but she could most definitely do more, and Alvah will be the first to admit it. Impatience leaks into a lot of aspects of Alvah's life. She can usually manage patience, until she becomes aware of doing so. If someone tells her to be patient she just can't stand to wait.

Size is no guarantee of power; although some people may not expect it, Alvah is a very powerful witch. She can produce spells and hexes that pack a real punch, and isn't above jinxing someone who annoys her.

Alvah is emotionally and mentally strong. She is capable of handling more than most people expect. This has contributed to her strong sense of independence, and she likes to feel like she can handle things without help. Alvah much prefers to stay strong than to give in to her feelings. On the surface she is very tough, although deep down she gets softer. She doesn't often let people in, though, so most people don't see that. Her brother James knows it, but also knows better than to point it out.

Alvah takes the idea of Gryffindors being brave to heart. She has always been bold and unwilling to give into fear, but as she's grown older she has become even more so. She gets scared as anyone would, but she refuses to give in to her fear.

History:

Alvah was the second child born to her parents, born a year after her older brother James. Her parents had both her and James late in life. The Potters were a pure blood family, and so Alvah had a typical wizarding upbringing. They were considerably wealthy, and lived in a large, yet comfortable house, with a big garden and lots of room to run around and play Quidditch.

When she was younger Alvah often followed James around, much to his annoyance. He wouldn't let her play with him, or let her join in when he played Quidditch. Her brother was arrogant and boastful, especially at that age, and loved to show off. Alvah quickly learned to make her own fun, and became almost wild. She loved to be outside, and used to terrify her parents by disappearing on them. She never listened to what she was told to do, and always got her clothes filthy, her hair full of knots.

Both she and her brother were taught the basics by a tutor while they lived at home, before going to Hogwarts. Alvah found it almost impossible to sit still, and it was a great task to get her to concentrate for any great period of time. Luckily she was very naturally intelligent, and so picked up what she was taught quickly enough.

Alvah received her Hogwarts letter on her 11th birthday, and followed her brother to Hogwarts. She was sorted into Gryffindor, as it was expected she would be, and settled in quickly. Alvah loved Hogwarts, and although she wasn't as quick to make close friends as some of the other students, she fit in well. Her brother James had grown more fond of her since leaving for the wizarding school, and was close to protective of her. The two of them sometimes spent time together in the Gryffindor common room, with James friend.

Having James as an older brother quickly came to mean having Sirius black as an older brother too. The two of them were inseparable, and Sirius often spent holidays at the Potter's. Through Sirius, Alvah met Pyxis Black, his younger sister, a Slytherin in Alvah's year. Alvah was surprised to find that she liked Pyxis, since most of Sirius' family were awful, as were most Slytherins, but the two of them got along well.

Sirius left his family home age 16, and stayed with the Potters at Christmas and over the summer holidays, making him even more like a second brother to Alvah.

Alvah's years at Hogwarts passed without much incident. She was a normal, happy student. She enjoyed playing Quidditch, and gained a place on the Gryffindor Quidditch team as a Chaser. She never could, nor did she ever try to, out shine James. Partially because James was such a talented seeker, but also because James had a real talent for showing off. It was hard to argue with that kind of determination to be admired. But Alvah let him have that; it was in James' nature to be in the spotlight, not hers.

Her brother James along with Sirius and their friend Peter all became Animagi so that they could keep their friend Remus company at the full moon; Remus Lupin was a Werewolf. Although Remus' condition was kept a secret, and the fact that his three friends were illegal animagi even more so, Alvah of course knew about it all. She too was interested in becoming an animagus, since it seemed like such fun, but she wasn't as patient as her brother and his friends had been about it and didn't have the same motivation that they did for becoming one.

At the very end of her 5th year, just before summer, Alvah and James' parents were stricken with dragon pox. They were quite elderly at the time, and succumbed to the illness. The two of them passed away within days of each other, leaving James and Alvah alone. James was 17, and therefore of age, so he took over as head of the family, and Alvah's guardian. He inherited a substantial sum of gold, with instructions that some of it would pass to Alvah when she came of age. Alvah spent most of the summer alone, in their large house with James and Sirius.
