Lily groaned, raking one of her hands through her thick mane of hair. Why the hell did arithmancy have to be so bloody hard?! It wasn't as if she was ever going to use anything she was learning in the class. You didn't need arithmancy to be a healer... at least, she didn't think so. And even if she did, it was probably only the beginner stuff, which she could of course do. It was just the longer; more complex problems that made her brain go completely fuzzy. Lily had always had troubles when it came to math, even when her parents had sent her to a muggle school when she was younger. It had been her least favorite subject, as wells as her worst. The only reason she had gone on to take it at Hogwarts had been because Alice had managed to convince her. Thinking back, Lily began to think that she must have been under some sort of influence when agreeing to take the class, as she never would have if she was in her normal state. No, she knew what must have happened! Alice must have sprung it on her while her mind had been clouded with bloody James Potter!
She thought back to the day Alice had asked her to sign up for arithmancy, yes; it had been during one of their history of magic classes. James had a bad tendency of sitting close to her in that class, which always resulted in a slew of James scented air, which caused some quite interesting day dreams. That must’ve been what happened. Alice sprung it on her when she was too distracted to think properly!
Sighing in frustration, Lily looked down at the scribbles on the parchment, squinting as she tried to make out what she'd written. She'd never been one to do well under pressure, and her writing skills often suffered because of it. Her eyes narrowed slightly, before letting out a light growl, accidentally crushing her quill in her hand as she did so. Sighing, she looked at the now snapped quill before reaching forward and snatched the thin sheet of parchment from the table, crumpling it in her hands. Lily then threw it into the fire, along with her quill. Lily leaned back in her chair, tilting her head to one side as she watched the balled up paper burn in the hearth.
Now she truly was stuck, not only was she unable to do the stupid problems, but the rest of her quills were up in her dorm. Lily looked up from the flames, leaning forward in her chair and looking around the Gryffindor Common Room. Maybe someone would magically pop up and help her understand the stupid things.
