Full Name: Severus Tobias Snape. There are several saints with the name Severus, though not a religious woman herself, Severus's mother Eileen thought it best to appease her muggle in-laws with a good Christian name. Severus also is known to mean severe or strict, a description which fits the boy well as he hardly ever cuts loose and tends to be quite serious for a teenager. Tobias, his middle also belongs to his muggle father. It was Eileen's hope that if named after him, the man would grow to love the boy despite his deep fear and hatred for the magical world.
Nicknames: Lily Evans calls him Sev, and is absolutely the only person who is allowed to. When he was young his mother sometimes called him Toby. This nickname stopped once Tobias grew more abusive. Fellow students have been known to call him nastier things such as "Snivellus" in mockery. His self proclaimed title is "the Half-Blood Prince" though he keeps this information to himself.
Age/Year: 17/Seventh Year
House: Slytherin
Blood Status: halfblood
Wand: Birch, Phoenix feather, 14"
Alliance: As of yet undecided. His housemates want him to join them on the side of the death eaters and have promised him much power and acceptance if he chooses to. However, his oldest and closest friend, Lily Evans says that she just couldn't bear the thought of losing him to the darkness. As such, he has a lot of thinking to do.

Likes: Books, brewing potions, gobstones, cribbage, pumpkin juice, ginger, Herbology, Coffee
Dislikes: James Potter and Sirius Black, Formal dances, Divination class, "Maths" (something Tobias was insistent he study every time he was home),and his father.
Strengths: Potions creation/brewing, spell creation, avoiding housemates, keeping to himself, and reading everything he could get his hands on.
Weaknesses: Maths, beating his mother in Gobstones, avoiding James Potter, and sticking up for himself.
Amortentia: The lavender smell of Lily's favorite shampoo, leather books, the type of pipe tobacco his grandfather used to smoke, and his mother's perfume.
Dementor: The first time he remembers Tobias hitting his mother.
Boggart: Losing one of the few people he loves.
Veritaserum: Hopelessly in love with Lily Evans.
Personality: Severus is quiet. He wont let anyone know what he is honestly thinking because then they might be able to hurt him. This is the case for all but Lily Evans, his best friend since he was nine years old. The child of an abusive father, Severus learned at a young age to keep his mouth shut and his head down. He felt weak and defenseless as he watched his mother get hit for sticking up for him and he vowed that he'd keep as much distance from her as he could to protect her. He took to reading whatever he could get his hands on as a form of escape from his father and a way to distance himself from Eileen.
As a result of his terrible home life, he never quite learned to stick up for himself in a graceful manner, a weakness that would haunt him throughout his years in school. Rather than face the torment, Severus spent most of his time avoiding companionship with others and retreating to the sanctuary of books and his studies.
Things weren't always terrible though. He and Lily had managed to maintain their friendship despite her unfortunate sorting into Gryffindor, a fact that Severus will claim to this day was a huge mistake on that sodding old hat's part. He looked forward to their evening talks despite the mockery that came from both of their houses if they were caught doing so.
He has recently learned to channel his loneliness into productivity and has been brewing his own potion creations as well as working on his own spells.

Hair color: Black, long, and always seems to have a greasy look to it despite it's regular washing.
Eye color: Technically they are hazel but they tend to look charcoal grey most of the time.
Facial structure: Very ocular nose and an angular face. Over the summer when he isn't eating as much his face has almost a gaunt look to it.
Body structure: Tall and lanky. He looks quite weak and scrawny at first glance. His collar bones, ribcage, and hip bones jut out just a little (which would make him the least comfortable person ever to cuddle with, not that he'd let anyone within cuddling distance), although his arms have been growing a little more muscular recently.
Clothing Choice: Severus's favorite item of clothing is an old tattered green sweater. Lily had given it to him for Christmas years ago and at the time it seemed like he'd never fully grow into it. When it's not cold outside he can usually be seen in some kind of black pants or jeans and a ratty t-shirt or tank top. Up until his last growth spurt a lot of his clothes consisted of hand-me-downs from his mother's family.

Mother: Eileen Prince Snape: Age 48. At one time a competitive gobstone player and herbologist, she took on a muggle job after starting a life with Tobias.
Father: Tobias Snape: Age 54. A muggle coal miner with an abusive streak, a short temper, and a fear and hatred for all things relating to magic.
Siblings: none
Other: none.
History: "It better not have any of that voodo magic witchcraft shit" was the response of one Tobias Snape to the news that he was going to be a father. When Severus was born, Eileen gave him his dad's name as his middle name and even took to calling him Toby on occasion, in hopes that Tobias would eventually accept the boy as his own. This worked out quite well for a while, but as with many other things, this relationship did not last. When Severus was just learning to walk, he'd use magic to help reach things that were too high on shelves. For a long time Eileen hid this talent from Tobias, explaining that clearly the items all falling off shelves was no more than the shoddy craftsmanship of a cheap house. The facade ended however when Tobias caught him without question using magic to knock down another boy who'd been picking on him at playgroup. This marked the last time Severus could remember his father coming home from the coal mines not smelling of whiskey and the first time he'd ever seen his father strike his mother as she defended him.
Although he was still a toddler, Severus could see the pain in his mothers eyes and he began to cry as he ran his little hands across her her swollen cheek. To protect them both, Eileen never talked about anything related to magic when Tobias was around. However, she did give Severus her old trunk full of textbooks and robes and playing "Hogwarts" soon became his favorite game, even if he had no one to play with.
The summer after his 9th birthday, he met Lily in the park by the school and after explaining that she was special like him, they became close friends. They'd both sneak off to play "Hogwarts" every chance they got and almost cried from happiness they say their Hogwarts letters had finally arrived.
Once school had started, Severus continued keeping to himself, unsure of how to make friends who would understand why his clothes were always so ratty or why he always looked so thin after summer vacation. Rather than explain to everyone who wouldn't understand anyway, he studied ways to protect himself and those he cared about.
Towards the end of his 6th year, a few of his housemates (the closest thing he had to friends in his own house) promised him power beyond his imagination if he'd join their side in an upcoming war. Despite Lily's opposition to dark magic, it would offer him the means to protect her and keep her safe. He was also good at it and having someone to talk to in his own house was a welcome change.
He still isn't sure which side he wants to choose in the upcoming war, but it is certain that he's going to have to make a choice at some point and it's going to earn him enemies regardless of his his decision.

Winter was a cruel mistress. Everything on the grounds was veiled in a layer of white and all of the tree branches seemed to have transformed into icicles. It was almost surreal, like it had jumped out of one of the tattered pages of one of the books that she loved so very much. It was this aspect that drew her in immediately. She felt a sense of longing as she pressed her pale fingers against the cold glass of the window outlining the forms of the trees as if she was painting a picture. At the same time, it was a reminder of how lonely she had become over the years. She watched as the other students threw snowballs and laughed, simply enjoying each others company. After spending the majority of her years at Hogwarts trying to stay isolated, she realized now that she wanted nothing more than to be a part of it all.
She sighed as her gaze shifted from the window to the empty classroom that she had been hiding in. If she wanted friends, she needed to do something about it. "Addy, do you really want it to be like this forever, all alone?" she could hear her father words ringing through her head. What a hypocrite he was. He hadn’t even talked to another witch since the incident with her mother. She bit her lower lip in frustration. She knew he was right…he always was. Her green eyes shifted once more to the forbidden forest. She could never be a part of the world she wanted so badly to belong to, but she could be a part of something else.
Defeated, she made her way towards to the door to the corridor. There was no way she was going to change things if she stayed hidden away in an abandoned classroom, but she definitely wasn’t going to be overly enthusiastic about leaving either. This was her comfort zone and as she stepped into the corridor she could feel the layer of security being stripped from her. She shivered slightly as her nerves got the best of her. All she had to do was find someone to talk to, anyone really, even if it was only for a few minutes. Then she could return once more to the sanctuary of her solitude feeling as if she at least had tried.
She failed to see a single face as she trudged through the corridor. It was as if the entire castle had been abandoned. Where is everyone? Surely they can’t all be outside she thought to herself as her gaze drifted to the floor in front of her. The sun was shining through the windows casting dappled patterns all over the ground. She smiled slightly as she walked through them, her own shadow dancing through them distorting the patterns. As she turned the corner she could see another shadow breaking up the speckled arrangement of light. She continued on at a slightly quicker pace now, desperate for human interaction. She didn’t care who the shadow belonged to, as long as they were willing to talk to her. She could feel a knot growing in her stomach. Whether it was excitement or fear, she couldn’t say, but what was the difference? She was getting close now, so close she could see the owner of the shadow, his head pressed against the glass.
“Are….Are you alright?” she asked nervously. Was it acceptable to just infringe on his privacy like this? It was too late now to question it, the words had already left her lips. She bit down softly once more on her bottom lip as if to punish it for its sudden betrayal.
