Likes: Rabastan enjoys peace and quiet as much as he likes going out and having fun. He loves experimental magic and spells. He will lock himself in a classroom for hours experimenting away from the watchful eyes of professors, and he particularly enjoys obscure, dark magic. He enjoys running and dueling and the outdoors. Smoking.
Dislikes: Cowards. Rabastan has never been the kind of person to sit on the sidelines while another person takes a risk, and he hates those that do. Summer weather. Rabastan has always preferred cold to heat. Doing nothing. Rabstan is very capable of spending time alone and not doing much at all, most definitely. But when there’s something to be done he can’t stand waiting around. He’s a boy of action. He dislikes liars and those think they can lie to him, Bellatrix Lestrange has always kind of rubbed him the wrong way, and being cooped up. Rabastan has never been fond of small spaces. Muggles.

Personality: Rabastan is a quiet kind of guy, he doesn’t laugh or joke often, but he is capable of opening up and laughing about things in the right circumstances. He enjoys spending time with others, but he likes spending just as much time, if not more, alone. He likes reading old spell books and working on new and old spells, inventing his own, and experimenting with the dark arts. He’s a brave, headstrong guy so he’s not afraid of much, but he’ll often act without thinking, which can lead to some pretty bad situations. Especially when you throw his short-temper into the mix. He’s been known to snap at Bellatrix for one thing or another, Pyxis as well. If you get on his nerves he’ll be sure to let you know.

He’s highly intelligent and often studies other people from afar before actually engaging them. He’s a bit lazy when he comes to his school work, but he does exceedingly well in Defense Against the Dark Arts and Charms. He’s both physically and magically strong, and will often run laps around the pitch rather than fly just because it makes him feel better. He has a lot of pent up energy and running or playing Quidditch are the two best ways to get rid of it. He picked up the habit of smoking in this fourth year and introduced it to Pyxis Black a year later. The two of them often have chats while they’re outside together away. The entire lot can be a bit overwhelming at times, so smoking was nice excuse to get away from it all, whether it is with Pyxis or by himself.

He’s an excellent dueler for his age and often gets into duels with other students just for fun. Most of the time they’re not supervised, which has gotten him into some trouble on occasion, but He’s your typical 16-year-old male, of course. He has an ego the size of the earth, and he’s not below feeding his own ego when he’s given the opportunity. So give him a few detentions, they’ll always be worth it in his opinion. Rabastan is a very loyal person and if you gain his trust you have it for life. He does not back down from a fight or from defending himself, his beliefs, or his friends, which is only one example of his stubborn nature. If he butts head with the wrong person it can be very, very messy.

Hair color: Rabastan has black hair that’s long compared to most other boys in his year, but he likes it that way. It’s thick and messy. Always.

History: Rabastan Lestrange was born to Robert and Mary Lestrange on March 3 and was the youngest of two boys, his older brother Rodolphus being only one year older than him. His parents were both pureblood elitists, even then. They were one of Lord Voldemort’s original Death Eaters, but then the title was almost unheard, and Tom Riddle only recently started gaining notoriety in the wizarding world. Rabastan was raised to hate muggles and to believe he was better than everyone else, but he was never completely sold on the concept (not like Rodolphus was, anyway), not until the death of his parents.

Before Lord Voldemort reared his head and started rallying people there was still magical elitism, and families who raised their children to believe that to have pure blood was to be better than anyone else, and they arranged all kinds of marriages to keep the bloodline pure, but they weren’t organized like Voldemort was currently trying to do, and there were other witches and wizards with equally extreme views, anti-pureblood wizards. The subgroup has since died down dramatically, but for a short time a decade prior they were almost as fanatical as the followers of Voldemort were becoming.

When Rabastan was eight his parents were captured and killed by ‘muggle fanatics’ and Rabastan’s views swayed more towards his parents’ and brother’s way of thinking; muggles were filth. He and Rodolphus inherited everything his parents left behind, including the house, but their uncle Rorick had come to stay with them until he felt they were old enough to take care of themselves. Rodolophus went to Hogwarts a year ahead of Rabastan and the year without him was slightly dismal. The house felt especially empty, and that’s when his experimental magic began. Though he didn’t have a wand, he still had magical ability, and he had the ability to read. He read loads of old spell books about magic spells and using wandless magic. He was fascinated by magic without a wand, and, within the confines of his home, he practiced underage magic. But, since he was a wizard, his uncle was a wizard, and there were no muggles in site, he was allowed to do magic as he hadn’t been to Hogwarts yet.

When his parents died his uncle had informed them that his parents had arranged for Rodolphus to marry Bellatrix Black, a member of another well-known pureblood family, in order to keep the line pure. Rabastan wasn’t sure how he felt about the whole thing, mostly because he felt like Rodolphus had no choice in the matter, and he was inwardly thankful that his parents had the chance to arrange any kind of marriage for him. He was always the more... emotional brother, and to have that kind of choice taken away from him... he wouldn't have been very happy about it. Especially when he met Aiden Potter.

When he was 11, Rabstan received his Hogwarts letter and was sorted into Slytherin along with Andromeda Black, Pyxis Black, and Aiden Potter. It was also when Rabastan first met Bellatrix Black, the woman who was to be his future sister-in-law. He didn’t like her right off the bat, and inwardly he felt sorry for Rodolphus. Bellatrix was deranged… and off in some way, her actions made that much very clear. They’d gotten into several bad arguments over the years, but as of late Rabastan had gotten better at controlling his tongue, though not by much. If he had an opinion about something, or didn’t like what Bellatrix was doing he would let her know. He wasn’t afraid of her, no matter how intimidating she thought she might come across. In his second year he became a beater for the Quidditch team and has stayed with the sport ever since. In Rabastan’s fifth year his uncle finally moved out of the house, leaving he and Rodolphus to their own devices.

And in his third year is when he introduced himself to Aiden Potter. He'd never forget the first time he saw her, siting underneath the sorting hat. She was cute, even then, and when she was sorted into Slytherin it came as that much more of a pleasant surprise. They were in potions, and he volunteered to be her partner. At first, she was completely put off, and Rabastan knew why. He and his friends were constantly at odds with her older brother, the king of Gryffindor. The groups were constantly at odds, but when Rabastan met Aiden... something changed. He was... softer around her, more caring. He still picked on the Marauders, but after that he concentrated much more on Black and Lupin and Pettigrew.

He asked her out in their fifth year, and they've been together ever since. She's a pureblood, and while she doesn't quite share the same views as he does on blood purity, they look past that about each other. James and Sirius were anything but happy when they found out about it, and Rodolphus wasn't too pleased, either, but Rabastan had Aiden, and that was what mattered to him. He loves her and has promised her that he wouldn't make her choose any side. But with the war approaching... he doesn't know if he can keep that promise.
